As part of the History Snapshots initiative, held by the Italian Senate Newspaper Library from time to time on a historical event by displaying contemporary newspaper cuttings and photographs, this year it was the turn of South Africa, the end of Apartheid and the birth of the new State. It demonstrates the importance of newspapers – as both a source of factual information and a basis for reflection – in the reconstruction of a period in history.
